Give Funds

It takes only $4.00 to give a book to a child. And what a difference that $4.00 can make. Research continues to show that book ownership and home libraries matter. Children who have books at home are more likely to read for enjoyment, build stronger literacy skills, and achieve greater academic success.

As an all-volunteer nonprofit, we depend on donations from foundations, businesses, and individuals to fund all our activities. We are on the ground, making a local difference. Please see below for giving ideas. If you have questions or suggestions, please get in touch via the contact form below or at: info@rifnova.org.

Memory gifts — Honor a loved one through a memorial gift to RIF NOVA. Through such a gift, the love of reading, books, and literature can be passed to a new generation of young readers in the Northern Virginia community.

Honor gifts — Celebrate a living family member, friend, neighbor, teacher, colleague, or any other important person in your life via a “celebration gift.” We will gladly tell their story on in our newsletter and in our social media.

Social media — Set up a fundraiser on social media for a birthday or anniversary!

QCDs — The qualified charitable distribution (QCD) rule allows traditional individual retirement account (IRA) owners over age 73 to deduct their required minimum distributions (RMDs) on their tax returns by giving the money to a charity — RIF NOVA! Speak with a tax accountant or financial advisor.

Sustaining partnerships — Become a corporate or community sustaining partner to help children with the books they need to become readers!

United Way — Donate to RIF NOVA through the Combined Federal Campaign at # 18818 or the United Way of the National Capital Area (UWNCA) at # 8959.

Matching funds — If your company offers matching funds, please consider RIF NOVA, where your funds will go immediately to books for children. Our organization cannot be matched in terms of dedication and impact on children’s literacy!

Potential donors — Help identify and connect us with potential donors, including individuals, foundations, and businesses.

Planned giving — A planned gift to RIF NOVA offers an opportunity to create a long-lasting impact beyond your lifetime, while giving potential tax benefits to you and your family. Options include naming RIF NOVA as a beneficiary in your will, life insurance policy, retirement plan, or charitable trust. Check with your attorney or financial advisor to select the most appropriate strategy for you.

Donor-Advised Funds (DAFs) — Recommend a grant to RIF NOVA through your Donor-Advised Fund by searching for Reading Is Fundamental of Northern Virginia, Inc. or Tax ID (EIN): 51-0155758.

Please note: As an all-volunteer organization with no salaries, our administrative costs are kept to an absolute minimum. In fiscal year 2025 (the most recent tax year available), administrative costs were just six percent of total expenses. An interest-bearing account covers those expenses, which means that your donations go directly to providing books. RIF NOVA is a 501(c)(3) organization. All donations are 100% tax deductible as allowed by law. Our most recent IRS tax form 990 may be found here
